Description: A centrally acting muscle relaxant used to manage spasticity.
Indication: Indicated for spasticity related to conditions such as multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries.
Contraindications: Contraindicated in patients with severe hepatic impairment or those taking CYP1A2 inhibitors (e.g., fluvoxamine, ciprofloxacin).
Mechanism of Action: Alpha-2 adrenergic agonist that inhibits presynaptic motor neuron activity, reducing muscle spasticity.
Side Effects: Drowsiness, dizziness, hypotension, dry mouth, and weakness. May cause liver toxicity with prolonged use.
Drug Interactions: Interacts with CNS depressants, antihypertensives, and CYP1A2 inhibitors, increasing sedation and hypotension risk.
