Description

Overview

Bi-Mix is a custom-compounded injectable medication used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED) in men who do not respond well to oral medications like Viagra (Sildenafil) or Cialis (Tadalafil). It consists of two vasodilating agents:

  1. Papaverine – A smooth muscle relaxant that enhances blood flow to the penis.
  2. Phentolamine – An alpha-blocker that widens blood vessels, improving circulation.

Bi-Mix is administered via an intracavernosal injection (directly into the penis), allowing for a stronger and faster erection than oral ED drugs.

Mechanism of Action

  • Papaverine inhibits phosphodiesterase, relaxing smooth muscle tissue and expanding blood vessels, increasing penile blood flow.
  • Phentolamine blocks alpha-adrenergic receptors, preventing norepinephrine from constricting blood vessels, further enhancing blood flow.
  • The combination results in a firm, prolonged erection without requiring sexual stimulation.

Benefits & Indications

  • Effective for men who do not respond to oral ED drugs
  • Fast-acting (erection occurs within 5–15 minutes)
  • More predictable than oral medications
  • Can be adjusted for individualized dosing
  • Less systemic side effects compared to oral ED drugs

Possible Side Effects

  • Pain at the injection site
  • Prolonged erection (priapism), which requires urgent medical treatment
  • Penile fibrosis or scarring from repeated injections
  • Bruising or bleeding at the injection site
  • Dizziness or low blood pressure (rare)

Drug Interactions

  • PDE-5 inhibitors (Viagra, Cialis, Levitra): Can cause dangerous blood pressure drops
  • Alpha-blockers (Tamsulosin, Doxazosin): Can amplify hypotensive effects
  • Blood thinners (Warfarin, Aspirin): May increase bleeding risk at the injection site
