Description
Overview
Sulfacetamide and sulfur topical cleanser is a combination medication commonly used to treat acne, rosacea, and seborrheic dermatitis. Sulfacetamide is a sulfonamide antibiotic, while sulfur is a keratolytic and antibacterial agent. Together, they work to reduce bacterial growth, control excess oil, and exfoliate the skin, making them effective in treating inflammatory skin conditions.
Mechanism of Action
- Sulfacetamide inhibits bacterial folic acid synthesis by blocking dihydropteroate synthetase, preventing the proliferation of Cutibacterium acnes and other bacteria involved in acne and rosacea.
- Sulfur has keratolytic, antibacterial, and antifungal properties. It helps break down dead skin cells, reducing clogged pores and promoting cell turnover. Sulfur also has mild anti-inflammatory effects that help with redness and irritation.
